Church Life

We Believe in...

  1.  the full, divine inspiration of the Bible and the supreme authority of both Old and New Testaments, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy and sufficient for faith and conduct; the reliability of the New Testament in its testimony to the character, authorship and interpretation of the Old Testament; and our need of the Holy Spirit for a true and spiritual understanding of the whole Bible.
  2. the Trinity: there is one God, but in three Persons – God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit; the unity of the Godhead and their divine co-existence and co-equality; and the love, grace and sovereignty of the Triune God in creation, providence and redemption.
  3. the sinfulness [total depravity] of all people as a consequence of the Fall and which incurs divine wrath and judgement;  therefore, the need for all people to be born again [regeneration/conversion].
  4. the Lord Jesus Christ who has always existed as a Person in the Godhead, but was born of the Virgin Mary and became fully man; therefore, his true and proper deity and his real and perfect manhood; the authority of his teaching and the infallibility of his words; his sinless life; his atoning sacrifice on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God; his bodily resurrection and his ascension into heaven; and his present priestly intercession for his people at the Father’s right hand, as the only Saviour of the world.
  5. the justification of sinners through the forgiveness of sins solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
  6. the Holy Spirit who brings a person to faith in Christ through his work of illumination, conviction of sin, repentance, new birth and sanctification; he lives in the Christian believer and distributes his gifts to every believer to enable them to contribute to the spiritual welfare and effective ministry of the local church.
  7. the Church which, as the body of Christ, comprises believers throughout the world, but which has numerous local expressions; new birth and personal confession of Christ as essentials for church membership; the priesthood of all believers.
  8. the ordinances of water baptism for believers by total immersion and the Lord’s Supper [Communion], symbolising the  body and  blood of Christ, in remembrance of his sacrificial death until he returns.
  9. the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ in power and glory.
  10. the resurrection of the body and the final judgment of all people, both the living and the dead; heaven and hell - the eternal blessedness of the redeemed in the presence of God and the eternal condemnation and separation from God of the lost; a new heaven and earth.
